From Love Letters to Hopeless Optimism – Ferb Release their New Single 'Provence'

After releasing their EPskeletonsin October last year ferb are back with "Provence" - a breathtaking song that demands you to scream along.

Provence came together in a single day early last year,” Harley their guitarist and vocalist explains, “and was originally a love letter to a former partner. Over time it turned into more of a moment of false optimism from a hopeless romantic.” You can feel the shift right at the core of the song and he describes it as their “cathartic shoegaze opus”. The beat picks up and multiple heavy and layered guitars are joining in.

Maybe I'm still so hopeless but/ I think this time's for sure/ And I hope it makes you happy

"Provence" starts with a delicate sound, almost sneakily luring you into a false pretence of security. It reminds the listeners of the first stages of falling in love with a low rhythm that slowly drives the songs forward. When the song continues, it is a complete opposite of what they started with. The track progresses in a loud collision of haunting and sinister sounds. It tells the story of doomed love, the longing for something and the daunting reality of knowing you will never reach it. It’s restless, different guitars are fighting to take in the room and the band adds:” I liked how Warpaint-escque it was, but the song’s become a much different beast since.”

It’s addictive, enthralling to listen to and unapologetically raw. The song will follow you around and we are ready to see what ferb are doing next!
