Between 'Heaven' and 'Hell': Chalk’s Latest Double Release

Belfast post-punk industrial duo Chalk are taking their listeners to the afterlife with new singles Heaven and Hell.

The first, a collaboration with Phantogram and cosign, sits on a beautifully hypnotic beat, drawing you in with its atmospheric production. There’s something almost deceptively inviting about the track, its pulsing rhythm creating a soundscape that feels as immersive as it is immediate.

Hell, on the other hand, takes a decidedly darker turn, leaning into distorted textures and a heavier, more abrasive sound. Where Heaven draws you in, Hell feels like it wants to drag you somewhere you might not necessarily want to go. There’s a harsher edge to its sonic palette, embracing the industrial grit that has become such a defining part of Chalk’s sound. The contrast between the two is what makes this double release particularly compelling. Rather than simply offering two standalone tracks, Chalk play with the duality suggested by their titles, creating two distinctly different listening experiences that nevertheless feel like they belong to the same universe.

There’s something fitting about a band like Chalk taking on the concepts of heaven and hell. Their sound has always sat in the inbetween of something, most of the time a little more unsettling. These two singles lean into that tension perfectly.

And if you missed out on the website fun Chalk had prepared for this release, I feel genuinely sorry for you. Some things are best experienced firsthand, and this was certainly one of them. It's not every day a band makes the release itself feel like an experience beyond simply pressing play, and Chalk clearly understood the assignment.

HEAVEN / HELL OUT NOW.
