Madra Salach’s debut EP It‘s A Hell Of An Age, released in January of this year, earned immaculate reception. Putting their own spin on Irish folk, the band is creating a sound that feels truly timeless. They take the bones of tradition and bend them until something timeless emerges, something that feels older than the genre itself yet unmistakably contemporary in its emotional charge.
The release of crowd-favourite Ribbon Factory only underlines the fierce momentum. The track is a perfect example of Madra Salach’s strange magic: you couldn’t pin it to a decade if you tried. Paul Banks’ vocals are the spellwork at the centre of it all, drawing you under his spell, while the instruments underline this with developing tension. Every strum, every percussive shift, feels like a step deeper into the story the song is telling.
Madra Salach are operating in that beautiful space where tradition and innovation don’t clash, but morph into something new and exciting entirely.
RIBBON FACTORY OUT NOW.
