Belfast's Alice Sloan releases her second single this year, and Within You is a heartfelt rock ballad that gets under your skin. There’s something beautifully raw about the track, drawing you in with its emotional honesty, but letting the track unfold and detonate through its arrangement.
Rooted in rock but carried by a tenderness that never feels forced, the track finds its strength in the balance between emotional restraint and intensity. It feels like the soundtrack to a moment you can’t quite put into words, when everything you’ve been holding back finally starts to surface.
Marking a compelling step forward for the artist, the track pushes towards a heavier guitar sound than her first single, embracing a grittier edge without sacrificing the emotional vulnerability at its core. There’s a newfound intensity to Sloan’s sound, one that allows her to explore the distortion, proving that a song can be both delicate and unapologetically loud.
Sloan’s music lands like the lovechild of Theatre and PJ Harvey. She is beginning to carve out her space where atmospheric songwriting and the rougher edges of rock can coexist, with enough room for both vulnerability and bite. If Within You is any indication of what’s to come, Alice Sloan is an artist worth keeping an eye on.
WITHIN YOU OUT NOW.
