German newcomers Silk finally crash through with their first single – and if this is only the beginning, they’re here to stay. They’re already carving out space on the map for anyone who craves punky, loud, meaningful music that actually says something.

Female-fronted and fuelled by a distinctly Gen-Z sense of anger and urgency, their sound calls to mind the rawness of Amyl and the Sniffers, with a touch of Hole thrown into the mix. There’s a volatility to them, a sense that every song could combust at any moment, and that’s exactly what makes them fascinating to watch and listen to. And that feeling only intensifies live.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Silk on stage will know exactly what I mean. The band completely transforms in front of an audience: entirely immersed in their craft, magnetic and genuinely hypnotising. There is an unpredictability to their performance that makes it impossible to look away; you get the sense that something might explode at any second, and you want to be there when it does.
If this first single is any indication, Silk are about to shake up the German music scene in a way that I’m not sure we’re even ready for.
