In Conversation With Glacmanis

Time to introduce yourselves please!

Glacmanis: Hello there we are Glacmanis (“Glass-manis”). Josh (rhythm guitar and vocals), Matt (bass guitar and vocals), Olli (drums), Callum (lead guitar).

Glacmanis is a name that sticks. What’s the story behind it?

Glacmanis: In the place I used to work I misheard someone’s surname and thought it was Glacmanis. When I realised it wasn’t Glacmanis and was actually something slightly different I thought it would be a good name for a band.

For someone who’s never stepped into your sonic world – how would you describe the experience of Glacmanis? What should they expect to feel, see, or remember?

Glacmanis: I don’t really know to be honest, we’ve been scraping by. It’s DIY, it’s raw, it’s melodic. It’s just about held together by duct tape.

With your EP dropping, let’s go behind the curtain: what was the most unexpected or euphoric moment during the making of it?

Glacmanis: Getting 100% in LEGO Star Wars.

How do you know when a song is finished – or do you ever?

Glacmanis: When you stop overthinking it.

Is there a track on the EP that feels like the soul of the project? Do you all agree on a favorite, or is it a beautiful mess of differing opinions?

Glacmanis: Unanimous “Table of Four”. We loved the collaboration that went into it. We recorded this during a heatwave in the summer in a box flat with no air conditioning.

This is your first release with the current lineup – how did that shift shape the creative process? Was it instant chemistry, or did you have to find your rhythm together?

Glacmanis: There was an instant chemistry when we did “Table of Four” and it’s grown more with each song. The myriad of influences just seems to work.

You’ve described the EP as a dance between chill and chaos. Was that duality intentional from the start, or did it sneak in as the songs took shape? Glacmanis: Again it comes from the myriad of influences and building arrangements that focus on more than just rhythm and melody. “Table of Four” for example was built around a simple bassline.

You’ve cited icons like Talking Heads, Joy Division, and The Beatles as your inspiration, but also bands like Geese, who are just now having their big moment. If you could step into the studio with any of your influences for a dream collaboration, who would it be – and what kind of track do you think you’d create together?

Glacmanis: We’d love to work in the studio with James Murphy from LCD. With our gigs we want to get a keys player in at some point. Nancy Whang, Billy Preston, Al Cooper, and Michael McDonald all doing keys and backing vocals simultaneously.

And finally – what’s next? What can we expect from Glacmanis in the future?

Glacmanis: We’ve got gigs in February in Manchester & London as well as a very special headline planned in Manchester in April. We’ve started working on new tunes so should hopefully have another project out in 2026. Would also be great to do some festivals and good support slots this year. And get 100% on LEGO Indiana Jones.
